Trekking in Procida: Routes and Tips from a Fitwalking Expert

🌿 Procida at the pace of fitwalking: My active holiday between nature and culture

Procida is the ideal destination for those like me who love dynamic holidays, immersed in nature and dedicated to well-being in every sense. The island's small size and easily walkable distances make it perfect to explore on foot—or better yet, at a Fitwalking pace!

Procida island

About me: a “walker” with a suitcase always ready

My name is Cristiana Mandara. I’m a curious “walker” with a passion for travel and art. As a certified Fitwalking instructor (yes, that’s “sport walking” for the uninitiated), I not only teach people the right technique to walk “well,” but I also love organizing day trips and weekend getaways for friends and groups—experiences where we discover the destination step by step, breathing in the landscape and savoring every detail. 🧠 The memory that sparked the desire I had been wanting to return to Procida for years. I visited as a child during a holiday in Ischia, and the memory was vivid: a black-sand beach and a mini-bus squeezing through the narrow streets of the town. When Procida was named Italian Capital of Culture in 2022, that desire turned into a real plan. So, in March, I suggested to my fellow “walkers” that we spend a long spring weekend on the island, ready to explore it with our legs leading the way.

The choice of accommodation: Procida Camp Resort – La Caravella

For an active group vacation, I was looking for a place that offered:

  • Close contact with nature
  • Spaces for relaxation and socializing
  • A central location with convenient services
  • Flexible accommodation options for all needs.

After some research, I found Procida Camp Resort – La Caravella: a glamping site surrounded by greenery, perfect for our group of 20 not-so-young walkers! Everyone was instantly excited about the idea: a new experience in a “green” setting that offered both privacy and independence, but also social opportunities and comfort.

The accommodations were spot on:

Everything was just a few steps away: pool, food area, and a wooden deck where we held our morning warm-up sessions. Even the laziest among us were won over!

🌞 Our Typical Day Each day followed an active yet relaxed rhythm:

  • ⏰ Wake-up at 6:15 AM, while the island was still wrapped in silence and the air was fresh.
  • đŸ’Ș Morning stretch at 6:40 on the deck, followed by a rejuvenating walk at 7—either on the beach or around the glamping area.
  • đŸ„ At 8:30, a hearty sweet and savory breakfast awaited us—perfect to recharge.
  • đŸ—ș At 10, we set off for the day’s walking tour: each itinerary was designed to reveal a different side of the island, from colorful villages to scenic trails and hidden beaches. We walked for two to three hours, alternating brisk walking with contemplative pauses to soak in the beauty.
  • 🍉 Around lunchtime, we returned to the resort for a fresh snack or quick lunch, followed by a relaxing dip in the pool with hot tub.
  • 🌇 In the afternoon, we headed off again for new spots, and in the evening, we treated ourselves to dinner at one of the restaurants recommended by the resort.

Every evening we came back tired, yes - but with full hearts! Full of beauty, movement, and shared moments. Procida gave us intense, unforgettable days.

Walking Procida from north to south: recommended routes

If there’s one truly authentic way to discover Procida, it’s on foot. Walking the island means letting yourself be guided by the colors of the houses, the scent of citrus trees, and the sound of the sea that follows every step.

In this section, I’ve gathered the lesser-known routes that touched me the most, and which allowed us to explore the island from north to south.

They are perfect in spring or autumn, when the island’s colors and scents are at their most vibrant and captivating, and the mild temperatures make any walking distance enjoyable.

These are trails I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone who wants to discover the island’s most authentic soul:

Itinerary 1 – Former Lighthouse of Punta Pioppeto

Itinerary 2 - Punta Solchiaro

Itinerary 3 - The hidden gardens of Procida

Happy walking!
