Trekking in Procida: Itinerary 3 – The Hidden Gardens of Procida

Main destination: Garden of Torre Tabaia

Total distance (round trip): approx. 6 km

Walking time: 2–3 hours (depending on stops)

Difficulty: medium-easy, with a mix of urban paths and scenic viewpoints.

In some guides, I had read about the “secret” gardens of Procida—tucked behind the colorful walls of villas and historic courtyards. Among them, what intrigued me most was the Garden of Torre Tabaia, located near Casale Vascello, the historical heart of the island dating back to the 7th century.

The garden/orchard is open to the public for free, and the owner warmly welcomes visitors, sharing the story of the tower and the garden—among lush fruit trees, blooming corners, and ancient archways.

Procida island

Two ways to reach it from Procida Camp Resort - La Caravella

Option A – Entirely on foot

A fascinating itinerary that passes through:

  • The lively Piazza Olmo
  • The sunny and picturesque Marina di Corricella
  • The silent, almost maze-like alleys of Casale Vascello.

This walk offers a blend of sea views, urban charm, and intimate corners, leading to the garden - a small green heart nestled in the island’s northeast side.

Option B – By boat to Marina di Corricella

In summer, I recommend this alternative - with a swim included:

  • After a refreshing dip at Chiaia Beach, you can book a small taxi boat operated by local boatmen who’ll pick you up at the dock near the restaurant La Conchiglia
  • You’ll land at the dock near da Maria alla Corricella restaurant
  • From there, continue on foot toward Casale Vascello, climbing the steep stairways of the village’s iconic colorful houses

I chose this option when I returned to Procida in August! The boat ride - with the Corricella village in the background - was a fun and magical moment, definitely selfie-worthy!

After the visit: Return or Extend

Once you've visited the garden, you can either:

  • Return to the resort via Piazza dei Martiri, Via Marcello Scotti, and Via Vittorio Emanuele
  • Or extend your walk toward Terra Murata, climbing up Via Castello and then Via del Canalone to reach the Belvedere of Capo Miseno and Punta Monaci—a view that will truly take your breath away.
